If you want to live Vegas 'the local way', after a dipping your toes on the Strip you'll have to step aside a little and immerse yourself in the downtown and in the 'side-Strip' experience. What I mean by that is that just outside the Strip is where you'll find many locals enjoying the best value for money for just about anything and everything.
Here I'll talk about one of such places, the Gold Coast hotel and casino. It is undoubtedly one of the cheapest places you can go to for a very cheap buffet; this is especially the case if you sign up to their players card (it does not cost anything and you can do it on the post by going to casino marketing, just a few steps away from the buffet entrance). Locals often have further 'perks' and, in the end, they can easily eat for a couple of dollars!
But, if you are not a local, you can still eat here for a handful of change. Will you enjoy it and will forever be thankful for these extraordinary Las Vegas value-for-money deals? Let's see.
If you are from some part of (expensive) Canada or Europe (or even South America!) for example, you'll be wondering if you entered an eating Mecca when you enter Las Vegas, just because you will not believe the low prices and the fantastic value for money. So for you this cheaper Vegas buffet will be like ordering a cup of coffee in Vancouver, for example. But, even if you are from the United States, the Gold Coast Vegas buffet has some 'aces up your sleeve'.
It seems to be a favourite of local seniors, for example, and if you are in the same age bracket you will find the forever favourites, such as good pea soup, clam chowder soup and a 3rd soup (it changes), together with the quintessential Italian, Mexican and Chinese sections. The salad bar is barely average (nothing like the Cravings buffet salad bar, for example) and the condiments are not as good as they could be, but the local seniors we met when we were there seemed to be relatively satisfied with everything. Families and visitors of course do come, mainly enticed by the low prices of this Vegas buffet, and in general they're satisfied too; the dessert section is also average for Vegas buffets in this price range.
In brief, if you come here to fully stimulate your taste buds, if you want a truly memorable experience, this is not the Vegas buffet for you. But if you want a cheap buffet to fill your belly and not regret it later, this is definitely a place you could visit (by the way, if you are downtown, the Main Street Station will probably be a better budget choice).
