Making the Rock Candy
One of the favorite among children and easy to make is the Rock Candy. One basic rule of making candies is always go by the measurement. If one messes the measurement, one is likely to get a pebble instead of a rock candy.
Ingredients:
• White sugar- 2 Cups
• Water- 1 cup
• Food coloring- 3-4 drops
• Flavoring (optional)- Bubblegum essence, Fruit essence
Utensils Required:
• Glasses or Jars
• Skewers or long thin bamboo sticks
• 1 Large saucepan
Method:
Step 1 - Put the saucepan on medium flame and add water to it. Gently bring it to a boil.
Step 2 - As it comes to a boil, start adding the white sugar into the boiling water half a cup (1/2 cup) at a time. Keep adding the sugar until it no longer dissolves in the water. Our main motive is to make a concentrated sugar solution with a thick consistency. The sugar dissolving may take some time so be patient while adding sugar.
Step 3 - Now add 3-4 drops of food flavoring (optional).
Step 4 - Take the saucepan off the flame and let it cool for around 15 minutes.
Step 5 - Now take a big plate and scatter some sugar on it. Now get your bamboo sticks or the Skewers and dip it into the mixture in the saucepan and then coat it with the sugar on the plate and let them dry.
Step 6 - Set up the jars or the glasses and add different colors of food coloring in different jars. Only add 2-3 drops of coloring in each jar. Then gently pour the sugar solution upon them.
